People rarely choose a lawyer on a whim. They usually search at a stressful moment, after an accident, an arrest, a divorce filing or a business dispute, and they compare two or three firms before calling anyone. Your website is often the first impression, and it does most of the persuading before anyone picks up the phone.
We design law firm websites for solo attorneys and small to mid-sized firms in the USA and Canada. Each one is built to do three things: earn trust quickly, rank for the practice areas you want more of, and turn visitors into consultation requests.
What makes a good law firm website
- Practice area pages with real depth. One page per practice area, and separate pages for sub-areas people search for on their own. “DUI defense” deserves its own page, not a line on your criminal defense page.
- Attorney bios that read like people. Education, bar admissions, years in practice, the kinds of cases you take, and a professional photo. Clients are hiring a person, not a logo.
- Trust signals. Client reviews, memberships, awards, media mentions and, where your rules allow it, case results.
- Fast, discreet contact. Click-to-call, a short consultation form, and clear office hours. Many people reach out in the evening, so the form matters as much as the phone.
- Plain-language content. Explain the process and how fees work in simple terms. A client who understands what happens next is far more likely to call.
Built with advertising rules in mind
Lawyer advertising is regulated. In the US, each state sets its own rules, mostly based on the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct. Some states require labels such as “Attorney Advertising”, and many restrict how past results and testimonials can be presented. In Canada, the provincial and territorial law societies set the marketing rules.
We design with this in mind: space for required disclaimers, careful wording around results, and no “guaranteed outcome” language anywhere on the site. You or your compliance contact sign off on the final wording, because you know your jurisdiction’s rules best.
Law firm SEO, built in from day one
Legal keywords are some of the most expensive clicks on Google Ads, so ranking organically is worth a lot to a firm. Every law office website we build includes:
- Practice area pages combined with city pages, so you can rank for searches like “family lawyer in Calgary” or “personal injury attorney in Tampa”.
- Legal service schema markup, so Google understands your firm, offices and practice areas.
- Google Business Profile guidance for every office location.
- FAQ content that answers the questions clients actually ask before they call.
- Fast, mobile-first pages that pass Core Web Vitals.
You can read more about our approach on the SEO website design page. If you want ongoing ranking work after launch, see our SEO & GEO service.
Law firm websites in the USA
Competition varies hugely by practice area and city. Personal injury in a big metro is one of the toughest fights on Google. Estate planning in a mid-sized town is a very different story. We help you pick where to compete first, then build pages to match. Firms with more than one office get a separate page for each location, with its own address, phone and map. Law firm websites in Canada
Canadian clients mostly search for a “lawyer” rather than an “attorney”, so your wording should match. If you practise in Quebec or serve French-speaking clients in Ottawa or New Brunswick, a bilingual site with proper language tags helps you show up in both English and French searches. We also keep your provincial law society’s marketing rules in mind. More on our website design in Canada page.

Frequently asked questions
How long does a law firm website take?
A smaller firm site usually goes live in 3 to 10 business days once we have your content. Larger multi-office sites with many practice areas take longer, and we’ll give you a firm date in the quote.
Can you connect our intake or case management software?
Often, yes. CRM and API integrations are part of the E-Commerce & Custom plan. Tell us which software you use and we’ll confirm before quoting.
Do you guarantee first-page rankings?
No, and you should be wary of anyone who does. We build every page to rank and show you the results in Search Console, but no agency controls Google.
Who owns the website?
You do. The domain, hosting and WordPress login are in your firm’s name from day one.
